How old is your child So you think you know! Well in the world of swimming it varies. The Club Championship and the County, Regional and National competitions all take the swimmer's age to be that swimmer's age at 31 December in the year of the swim. Many open galas take the swimmer's age to be their age on the last day of that gala, some league competitions use the swimmer's age at the last round of the league competition. Confused! Well don't be just ask your coach or a committee member and they will help explain. |
How the competition works Each swimmer is competing against swimmers in their age group. The age groups start at 8 and under and awards for each year group are made until 18 and over which is the final age group. However, the swimmers swim in heats which are seeded based on the swimmer's entry time. For example a 10 year old swimmer may swim in heat 2 of an event and win that heat in 45.89 seconds but in heat 4 another 10 year old swimmer might swim 41.20 seconds to win the award for that age group. The only way to be sure where a swimmer finishes is to check the results posted on the wall or check online using the link above. |
